Mission

Objective

Determine whether “Communication Engineering” contributes a distinct, decision-useful object, method, or predictive theory beyond adjacent fields.

Initial hypotheses

• H1: It is only a relabeling of existing fields.
• H2: Its value is an integrative engineering lifecycle for action-bearing communication artifacts, not a new basic science.
• H3: It has a unique causal theory or method not covered elsewhere.

Required evidence

Foundational definitions, current standards, comparative method map, attempted counterexamples, and at least one discriminating prediction.

Execution status is maintained in research/roadmaps/communication-engineering-body-of-work-analysis.md. A body of work is complete only when it satisfies that roadmap's completion gate.

Success criteria

A boundary statement that names unique contribution and exclusions, or a documented rejection of the discipline label.

Stop conditions

Stop when a unique, testable contribution is established or when further search only finds renamed adjacent-field constructs.

Completion

Completed 2026-07-29. Twelve bounded body-of-work maps found no exclusive object, mechanism, method, or prediction. RP-BOUNDARY-2026-5A7C recommends rejecting the distinct-discipline claim; DF-BOUNDARY-2026-3F72 records the review-stage disposition. A comparative experiment remains optional implementation research, not a prerequisite for rejecting unsupported novelty.
